Traditional Long Distance provides you with an inexpensive way to place domestic and international calls from any location in the 50 States or Canada, all at the same low rates.* There are no sign-up fees, monthly fees or minimums. Plus, after the first 30 seconds, domestic and international calls are billed in six-second increments (except calls to Mexico--which are billed in whole minutes) saving you even more! This personal use service is available to all current OSU students, faculty and staff at the Columbus and Regional campuses.

How the Service Works

Using our Traditional Long Distance service is easy. You can use the service from most touchtone telephones located in the 50 States and Canada, to place both domestic and international calls. Dialing instructions are available here. You will receive your own six-digit Authorization Code (Auth Code) when ordering this service. Your personal Auth Code enables you to place calls from campus phones, as well as easily track your calling expenses. To place calls from off campus locations, you will also be required to create and use a Personal Identification Number (PIN), which increases the security of your service.


Creating your Personal Identification Number (PIN)

The system prompts you to create your five-digit PIN when you place your first call from an off campus location. Our dialing instructions assist you in placing your first call and in setting up your PIN. Once you have placed your first call and established your PIN, we recommend that you wait 24 hours (one business day) before placing another call. This will give our system time to recognize and store your PIN.


Domestic and International Rates*

Anytime, Flat Rates

Our current domestic rate for Traditional Long Distance is now a nationwide, flat rate of 4.5¢ per minute. This low rate is in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week to any location in the 50 States from any location in the 50 States or Canada. Our international long distance rates are also in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week when calling from any location in the 50 States or Canada. Please note that rates are subject to change at anytime. There are no sign-up or monthly fees and no minimums. Plus, calls are billed in six-second increments, after the first 30 seconds, saving you even more. Please note that rates are subject to change at anytime.

*NOTE: Calls placed using the toll free access numbers (1 800 678-6147 & 1 800 652-3971) will incur a $0.55 per call access fee. Calls placed from local payphones using the 292-5500 access number will require the proper coin deposit to initiate the call. The toll free 1 800 678-6147 access number can also be used to place calls from local payphones.


Ordering Service

You must be a current OSU student, faculty and staff member at the Columbus or Regional Campuses to order our Traditional Long Distance Service for personal use. There are no install, order or activation fees when requesting this service. You can also request this service by contacting us during office hours. You will establish an Account for billing and payment purposes when ordering service. You will need to provide the following information:

  • Your name and contact information
  • Either your OSU Employee ID # (faculty and staff) OR your BuckID # (students)
  • Your billing address (campus and/or permanent address)

Upon completing your online order, our system will provide you with your personal six-digit Auth Code activated and ready for use. Requests received by other means will be processed within 24 business hours of receiving them.


Canceling or Changing Service

You are responsible for notifying our office when you change addresses or leave the university for any reason. You can easily cancel or change services, as well as update your billing address through our Online Account Management system.


Helpful Tips

  • Keep your Auth Code and PIN secure and hidden from others, especially in public locations and at payphones. Do not share your Auth Code or PIN with others.
  • Remember, you are responsible for all calls placed with your Auth Code and PIN, until you cancel service.
  • Report lost or stolen Auth Codes and PINS, or if you suspect fraudulent use of your codes, immediately to our office.

Reporting Lost or Stolen Cards

Report lost or stolen Auth Codes and PINs 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 614-688-HELP (4357), or toll free at 1 800 678-6003. After business hours, our Automated Customer Service Line will handle your request. Your Auth Code and PIN will be deactivated immediately.
